Underneath the Lintel
By Glen Berger
Aurora Theatre
Underneath the Lintel features stage and screen star Steve Coulter as a quirky Dutch librarian who turns into a globe-trotting detective when he becomes obsessed about a book, 113 years overdue. Driven by his burning curiosity, he sets out on a mysterious adventure, which leads him to an almost forgotten participant in The Crucifixion. Underneath the Lintel won a 2001 Ovation Award (Los Angeles), the 2003 Sterling Award (Edmonton) for Best Play, and was selected as one of Time Out New York's Ten Best Plays of 2001.This performance should be especially popular with church groups.
Aurora Theatre has secured the creative team from the highly acclaimed run of Underneath the Lintel in 2003 for the Actors Theatre of Atlanta. That production was chosen Best Play of the Year by Creative Loafing in 2003, recognized as one of the Top 10 Plays of the Year by the AJC and Creative Loafing named Steve Coulter as Best Male Actor for his performance. At the helm, Jay Freer, has directed at Alliance Theatre, Theatrical Outfit and Actors Theatre of Atlanta which he co-founded and operated from 2000-2006. Starring as The Librarian is Steve Coulter, an Atlanta-based actor who has performed in regional theatres across the country including Aurora Theatre’s hit comedy Sirens last January. Most folks will recognize Steve from his work in film and television including: Prison Break, Army Wives, Madea’s Family Reunion and The People v. Leo Frank on PBS.
